Philip Cohen 1926— 2007
Philip Cohen, patriarch and president of M. Cohen and Sons, Inc. dba The Iron Shop, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 21, 2007. Philip, who was 80 years old at the time of his passing, was extremely active in the daily operations of The Iron Shop, working hands-on and teaching his extensive knowledge of ironwork to the generations of family and employees that followed him. Philip served as company president for 36 years.
A loving husband, devoted father and doting grandfather, Philip, as his son Stanley said, was a model in dualism. He was hard and soft, stubborn and compliant, supporter and devil’s advocate, technician and artist, boss and friend, aggressive and passive, curious and cautious, impatient and committed, wanted rules to be followed and the same rules to be broken. Thought with his hands and was an excellent teacher. He was the kind of teacher that gave part of himself when he taught. You didn’t learn from him as much as you took part of him with you. He loved creating.
An active member of his synagogue and Hadassah, Philip will be missed.
