The Iron Shop Adds New Hi-tech Laser Cuttter to its Production Line

BROOMALL, Pa., October 14, 2002 — The Iron Shop, the leading manufacturer of spiral stairs, recently purchased a modular laser cutting system from Bystronic Group; a company focused on the advanced technological development and manufacturing of high-tech laser and water jet cutting systems.

This new state-of-the art machine, will be arriving at The Iron Shop in 2003. At 30-feet by 30-feet, this new piece of technology comes equipped with a laser cutting center, automatic shuttle table, and a cutting head for either high or low pressure work. In addition, it features a device for sensing and sheet positioning, CNC control and a swivel arm terminal with integrated PC. The new laser cutter also has an integrated network board, moveable collection trays for small parts and on-site installation and training from BYSOFT and BYNEST.

“This new system will allow us to cut designs into the spirals’ center poles and handrails by using its rotary cutting attachment,” said Allen Cohen, vice president of The Iron Shop. “It will also allow us to cut virtually any photographed design into the stair including logos.” The new piece of equipment is so precise it will allow for the insertion of one piece of material into another – stainless steel into steel or steel into brass. The machine can also produce invisible welds on the stairs that are barely noticeable. “We are really looking forward to working with this new piece of machinery. It will greatly increase our productivity,” commented Cohen.
