As an old retired corporate nomad, I have never been known for lightly giving out accolades.  However, this year my wife and I undertook the most ambitious remodeling project of our almost 50 year marriage - that being the layout, design, ordering, finishing and installation of our two-story, 6-foot diameter Oak Spiral Stair Kit from The Iron Shop.

Our project started in the fall of 2006 when we were returning from a cruise out of Port Canaveral, FL.  We had seen an ad listing one of your showrooms and sales offices as being in Venice, FL, so we crossed the state to see what your company had to offer.

On our arrival, Christine Dodge gave us the deluxe tour and provided all of the answers to our many questions and provided us with literature to bring home. All too often when people just walk into a business off the street they get the “Ho Hum” treatment.  But not with Christine!  Over the next several months she went out of her way to answer our many questions and provide every speck of information we required. The order was placed with Christine. And while we were always impressed with her professionalism, that was just the beginning of our wonderful experience with The Iron Shop.

You certainly know how many parts are involved with this type of order. I am more than pleased to say our only problem was two or three missing bolts with the total order, and those were immediately provided.

In closing, I want you to know my wife and I have the highest regard for your personnel and the quality of the products your company produces.  To be honest with you, if I were still in business I would have tried to hire several of them.

Many thanks to you and all of your staff for making our 2007 a special year.

Back in 2004, I started a renovation project on a 100 year old Baltimore Rowhouse.  With very limited space, I decided to go with a spiral stair. To my surprise, I couldn't find anywhere in my own city that makes or sells them.  The internet led me to The Iron Shop, which had better pricing because they let you assemble the stair yourself.

In 2007 when I added an addition and a rooftop deck to my home, I called on The Iron Shop again for two more stairs, and installation was even easier than the first time.  I was also able to upgrade the original stair with oak treads and a metal handrail, all with The Iron Shop's easy to assemble parts.  The results can be seen at http://rowhousebaltimore.com

I'm an architect who designs fine custom homes in the Carolinas. Although the styles may vary from “Arts and Crafts”, to “French Country Gothic Mountain Village Style”, my clients' homes all share in the FINE, CUSTOM and FUN description. On this mid-century modern rustic bungalow remodel, The Iron Shop's 6' aluminum stair, powder-coated in a stainless steel color, was perfect to complete the description - especially the “FUN” part. It works as a hinge connecting the existing home and a semi-detached garage/apartment addition, to the main entry and terrace below. The stair helps make this home fine, custom and fun.

We have recently built a four apartment building, and because of the high elevation of the roof in one of the one bedroom apartments, we decided to put in a sub-floor over the bedroom to give it an additional bedroom. To access this bedroom, we decided to put in a spiral staircase to save space. We searched the internet and found plenty of companies. After seeing what The Iron Shop had to offer, and viewing their installation kit demo, we were very impressed.

We called The Iron Shop right away, gave them the floor elevation, and emailed them a picture of where we wanted to install the stair. They worked out all the details and gave us a quote and delivery date. The spiral staircase came as a kit and included an instruction booklet and DVD showing how to install the stair. All components were safely packed. I think anyone with one helper can put these stairs together. The Iron Shop makes it that easy for you.

Our staircase is a conversational piece. We must give credit to Ron Cash, Christine Dodge and The Iron Shop. We have no regrets. It’s picture perfect. Everyone that comes to our apartment is so impressed. I must say my wife was skeptical about ordering it at first because she was not sure if it was going to be as sturdy and strong as her sister’s stair, that is homemade; but she loves it and wishes she had put them in the other apartments. The finished touch is just so beautiful.

We recently incorporated a very prominent feature into our home while completing an addition that provides access from a Loft/Office area to a Recreation Room on the ground floor. The feature is a 5'5" Oak Spiral Stair Kit purchased, assembled and stained by The Iron Shop out of its Ontario, CA showroom.

My original concept for the addition foresaw the use of a spiral stairway to reduce the footprint of 'stairs' to connect the rooms. Having done my research on the internet, amongst many manufacturers, I decided to select a kit from The Iron Shop as I foresaw the advantages of dealing with a local supplier to answer questions and provide guidance.

My spouse and I drove to Ontario, CA to see for ourselves some models The Iron Shop had on display. While there we met with Sergio Ochoa, a sales representative for the company. He ably answered the initial questions we had and walked us through the different models. We quickly decided on a wooden stairway versus a steel one for our particular needs. As our architect was designing our addition, he too had some questions regarding clearances and loads to finalize the design of the spiral stairway. Sergio provided the answers in a timely manner. Our purchase order contract included the assembly of the stair kit. Sergio provided a sub-contractor that specializes in the assembly of spiral stairs to assemble the unit, which included the optional railing along the exposed edge of the Loft, on each side of the stairway - with matching handrails and balusters. The contractor did a very good and professional job and we were very satisfied with the finished product.

After its assembly I was ready to address the final step of staining & varnishing. My plan on this matter was to find a local contractor to do the work. I was very concerned with the possible lack of expertise of local painting contractors to undertake this job which required multiple applications of stain and varnish on an extensive surface area. Once again, I touched base with Sergio and he was able to recommend someone who was very knowledgeable in staining staircases. I contracted directly with the person he recommended and needless to say he did an outstanding job.

Our overall experience in dealing with The Iron Shop, and Sergio in particular, has been most satisfying on all fronts and the end product exceeded our expectations.

The spiral is in our courtyard in the Historic Landmark District of Savannah, GA. I think that it goes perfectly with the surroundings and the courtyard design. Your help in designing the staircase was invaluable and it arrived in perfect condition and was really simple to install. Corkscrewing it through the courtyard gate was an experience but that also worked.

The spiral is very sturdy, as you said it would be, and we have received many compliments on the way it looks. That is important since the house was built in 1888 and the restoration was designed to return the house to its original look. The spiral looks as though it was meant to be there and fits in perfectly with the overall house design.

Thank you again for all of your assistance and please thank everyone who made it. They did a great job!

They turned out great and everyone that sees them can't believe they
weren't professionally installed.  My experience with the Iron Shop in
Ontario, CA was great.  They were always there to answer my questions
and provide help.  I had wanted to put spiral stairs on our deck for
years and I'm so glad I finally did it.  I wish I would have done this
years earlier as it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.  Now my
friends that see it are considering doing the same at their houses.
