Gingerbread houses give bakers a yearly excuse to test new designs, from candy rooflines to sugar glass windows. A spiral staircase adds a level of architectural detail most gingerbread builds skip entirely. Set against a roof deck or tucked behind a window, it gives a flat facade real depth and a focal point the rest of the house doesn’t have.

We built a template so you can bring the same design to your own gingerbread house.

What You’ll Need

Four downloads cover everything from dough to display:

  1. Classic Gingerbread Recipe
  2. Gingerbread Spiral Stair Template Page 1
  3. Gingerbread Spiral Stair Template Page 2
  4. Gingerbread Spiral Stair Assembly Instructions

How to Build the Staircase

Print and cut the templates, then bake each piece according to the recipe. Once the pieces have cooled, the assembly guide walks through stacking and securing each tread to form the spiral, piece by piece.
