Victorian Spiral

The Victorian Spiral series carries the ornamental language of the 19th-century. It features dense scrollwork, pierced patterns, and gothic detailing worked into the treads, spindles, and handrail. Each casting is developed from historic patterns rather than a generic decorative motif, then finished in a powder coat or hand-applied verdigris to match the aged patina of the period.

The Victorian Spiral series is the most ornamental of the spiral line. Where American Industrial features a bold utilitarian style, the Victorian’s castings reproduce the dense scrollwork and cutwork patterns of the Victorian era itself. It’s the spiral series most often chosen for restoration work and homes where the staircase is meant to read as historic.

The Iron Shop offers a wide variety of ornate spiral staircase parts, including unique tread styles, spindle shapes and accessories, handrail accessories, and center pole caps, that can be selected to customize your Victorian-style spiral staircase. No. Every ornamental component in the Victorian Spiral series is cast in aluminum rather than iron. The result is an embellished and lavish spiral staircase with the depth and pattern of antique cast ironwork, without the weight or maintenance of real cast iron.

Cast iron is heavier, prone to rust without regular upkeep, and is more difficult to install. Cast aluminum can reproduce the same ornamental detail at roughly a third of the weight and is resistant to outdoor exposure and elements. Aluminum has become the standard material for reproduction Victorian Spiral staircase designs.
