Floating Staircases

Multi-Line Floating

Light moves freely with this staircase. The Multi-Line Floating series brings mid-century modern design’s clean, repeated geometry to our floating staircase. It pairs multi-line rod railing with the open riser design that already makes the stair sleek, modern, and airy.

The multi-line rod railing adds a bold, dimensional layer without closing off the sightlines the floating form is built around. The result is a seamless staircase that carries the best qualities of mid-century design into modern day.

Features

A dimensional multi-line railing style creates cascading rail lines that nods to mid-century modern’s emphasis on clean lines over ornament
Open, riser-free treads keep the stair’s silhouette light and unobstructed, letting the multi-line rail be the defining feature rather than competing with it

Behind the Design

Mid-century modern architects Richard Neutra and Joseph Eichler changed the way homes were built, replacing walled-off, segmented floor plans with the open concept style. Their post-and-beam construction removed the need for heavy interior walls, letting rooms flow into one another. The Multi-Line Floating staircase brings the same principles to the floating stair design itself, prioritizing clean lines, open space and light, and functional forms.

Like the Multi-Line Spiral series, the multi-line rod railing in the floating stair version is created from eight ¼-inch stainless steel round bars that cascade down the full length of the railing. The repeated geometry catches light, giving the railing a dimensional presence without ever being heavy.

01 / DESIGN AND STYLE

What makes multi-line rod railing mid-century modern on a floating staircase?

Mid-century modern design favors clean, repeated lines over ornament. The multi-line rod railing carries that straight through a floating staircase in this series. The horizontal bars that run the full length of the railing create one continuous line from top to bottom, echoing the same open, uncluttered geometry that defines the floating form and mid-century design itself.
